Dave Keller, a contractor and stress-relieved father managed by Barry Pepper, decided to get up at his house during a 5-section hurricane and was immediately trapped in an underground crawlspace. CGI is surprisingly good with alligators - they never look fake, which helps keep their constant threat intact. Some inconsistencies with visual effects take you out of some scenes, including a hurricane. But in the basement the strong forces of nature and the dangers of claustrophobia are maintained throughout. What hinders the film is its plot benefits and the cliché that introduces the brutality of some of the character alligators, with little or no consequence. Some jump scares are also predictable. Still, there are plenty of scary moments. Great chemistry between the lead actors and the sincerity in their acting will invest you in the 'crawl'. Inspired by classic animal features, director Alexandra Aja aims to do nothing new for the genre but uses solid setup and solid performance to provide exciting and satisfying film for thrill-seekers. On the fringes of whatever gold old fashion we have here, this film provides a great way. Here are some truly terrifying moments, especially in the first half, when the film teases you with a chance for horror at play. Director Aja cleverly expands the shock value as the film progresses and manages to deliver the adventure simply from the hero's point of view - giving the film a larger view at a smaller scale location.
